McCosker, Chen Wei-Li and Chen Hong-Ming in 2009.〔McCosker, J. E., W.-L. Chen and H.-M. Chen, 2009 (13 Nov.) (30556 ) ''Comments on the snake-eel genus Xyrias (Anguilliformes: Ophichthidae) with the description of a new species.'' Zootaxa No. 2289: 61-67.〕 It is a marine, subtropical eel which is known from Taiwan, in the Pacific Ocean. It generally dwells at a depth range of 60-70 metres.
